Still working towards the design aspect of the project, I wanted to step away from the planet/sun creations that I had been previously experimenting with.

I wanted to revert back to a neutral position to take a moment to think about the basic aspects of what the design will look like, in terms of; Colour Scheme, Layout, Functionality etc.

With the previous experimentations (the creation of planets, a sun and the first conceptualized layout concept) I had been including aspects of colour into the design ideas.

Looking back at these designs, I felt that the use of colour up against the black background (which is supposed to replicate space) did not seem to work well against each other. I wanted the design of the project to be clean, simple and looks and feel professional.

In order to achieve my goal I wanted to lock the colour scheme early on in order to help the design development.

Taking inspiration from Moon again, along with my love for minimal, simple design (evident in my Design project work) I wanted to work in a Black and White colour scheme.

From this I wanted to move away from small experimentations and head towards trying to conceptualise what the project will look like.

 

Front Page

I first wanted to work towards conceptualising the front page of the project.

I wanted to produce some graphical artwork based on the idea of connections between people (relating to the main basis of the project and collective consciousness).

I wanted the designed graphic to be spherical in shape in order to relate to Earth. The graphic would also include connections taking place all over in order to relate to idea of global connections through the use of the internet, leading to a collective consciousness.

This graphic was hand drawn.

Once the graphic was complete, it was scanned into Illustrator and vectorised to increase the quality and make some changes to the visualisation of the graphic.

This was the final outcome.

From this I worked on the creation of the main page.

The graphic was inverted into white to contrast against the black background.

The graphic was centralised as I imaged that the graphic would fade away to reveal the main aspect of the project, the different Galaxies containing the different planets (e.g. contributions) in orbit around the center.

Another graphic was also worked into the design to act as a location where the user would click in order to advance into the main part of the project.

 

This was the home page design I had conceptualized.

I payed particular attention to the use of text as I wanted to attach the design with a font type that fitted the style I was working towards.

Overall I was extremely happy with the design of the Welcome page as I could picture what the final product could look like.

The next stage of the project development is to work on conceptualising what the main aspect to the project (the contributions in orbit) will look like.

From this Welcome page design conception, Alex will also start working on the building of the website, working from the concepts created here.

We will also be talking to Clive about the project in order to get a clearer understanding of where we are heading, to make sure that our idea is as strong as it can be.
